1. Server Stabilization & Modern Tech Stack

We eliminated the site’s ongoing crashes and slowdowns by moving it off its old hosting setup and onto 610 Digital’s high-performance server environment.

High-Performance Server Environment

Prior to the migration, the site frequently ran out of memory and froze up—especially when staff tried to update content or manage store inventory. We moved the entire website over to 610 Digital’s fast, optimized hosting environment. This completely resolved the server crashes, eliminated backend timeouts, and ensured the site loads quickly and reliably for every visitor.

Bricks Builder & Automatic.css (ACSS) Integration

To replace the old, cluttered theme and heavy design plugins, we rebuilt the entire front end using Bricks Builder and Automatic.css (ACSS):

  • Clean Construction: Instead of burying content in layers of messy code, Bricks keeps the site structure clean and fast.
  • Global Design System: ACSS gives us a clear set of design rules for fonts, colors, and spacing. This guarantees the entire site stays visually consistent and looks great on every screen size—from smartphones to desktop monitors.

2. Structured Content Model for Non-Profits

To eliminate the operational headache of manual layout editing, we decoupled content entry from front-end page layouts by creating custom relational content architecture.

Custom Post Types (CPTs) & Structured Fields

Recurring non-profit content areas were organized into dedicated Custom Post Types paired with intuitive custom field groups:

  • Museum Events & Exhibitions: Structured fields handle event start/end dates, ticket links, recurring schedules, and venue locations. The system automatically handles past-event archiving and chronological sorting.
  • Team & Board Directory: Staff profiles are categorized dynamically by roles (Board Members, Curators, Administration) using dynamic taxonomies, allowing instant updates without touching design grids.
  • News & Publications: Standardized article fields enforce brand typography, author metadata, and featured media across all editorial posts.

Dynamic Templates & Zero Layout Maintenance

Instead of staff members editing live page layouts directly—which previously risked breaking page structures—they enter information into straightforward backend forms. Custom Bricks dynamic templates automatically render the data, maintaining perfect visual consistency across the entire site.

3. WooCommerce Data & Checkout Streamlining

The museum’s online store had accumulated years of technical debt, legacy attributes, and custom code snippets that complicated inventory management and created checkout friction.

Catalog Audit & Data Hygiene

  • Attribute & Variant Cleanup: We performed a full audit of all physical merchandise, publications, and museum gifts, consolidating redundant product variations and stripping out orphaned metadata.
  • Tax & Shipping Resolution: Cleaned up conflicting custom code snippets and corrected edge cases handling non-profit tax exemptions and variable shipping rules for unique physical items.

High-Speed Custom Storefront

Using Bricks dynamic product templates styled with ACSS utility classes, we rebuilt the single product layouts, shop archives, and cart/checkout flows from scratch. The result is a seamless, modern e-commerce experience that blends naturally into the museum’s primary brand aesthetic while delivering sub-second page loads.
